Gamepad for Xbox 360 Drivers Not Found Issue
A while ago I bought this from my local Gamestop. Well, I actually bought a slightly different variant I can't find online, but it is almost exactly the same thing except it is the Gamestop brand. The tag on the controller reads 'Controller for Xbox 360-BB-070'.
So I plugged this controller into my desktop at home and it worked fine. I plugged it into my xbox and my brothers xbox and it worked fine. The issue is that it won't work on my laptop. I have managed to get other wired xbox 360 controllers to work on this laptop, but this wired controller will not work.
Before I go any further, here is my dxdaig.
Symptoms:
Xbox 360 Wired Controller Driver Not Installing Pc
The controller, when plugged into any USB port on the laptop, lights the four center ring lights green for a second before they all turn off. The controller does not work.
The display name of the controller in Device Manager is listed under 'Other Devices' as 'Gamepad for Xbox 360'. Attempting to install drivers results in Windows searching through Windows Update and Preconfigured Folders for the drivers before ultimately failing to find the. I receive a message that the drivers could not be found. Even if I go here and run the exe to install the drivers, afterward they still cannot be located.
Troubleshooting:
I have managed to get a standard, wired, black xbox 360 controller to work fine on the laptop (I am no longer in possession of this controller).
I have confirmed that my own controller functions on both an xbox and a desktop pc.
I have made sure Windows is updated.
I uninstalled all USB Host Controllers and and re-installed them, thinking it was a USB port issue. I do not believe this to be the case as a wireless mouse works fine on all ports.
I have installed the drivers on my laptop.
Various reboots have been done throughout the process for good measure.
Possible Solution:
Xbox Wired Controller Pc Driver
I am kind of stuck here. I am fairly sure the drivers are installed and I would guess that the other controller I managed to get working does use the same drivers. My guess is that there is some weird registry entry that is throwing me off, or that my controller, being a Gamestop brand, is not listed in the driver config file. I copied down the Hardware Ids of the controller (listed below) and went into 'C:/Windows/inf' looking for the driver file but I honestly don't know what the file would be called, or if it even installed tot he correct location (which it probably did).
If I could find out the name of that file I could see if this is the issue, but I am running the exe to install the drivers and I am not shown the install path or file name for any length of time, aside from when he installer runs for a second or so (it's very fast). I really don't know what to do at this point other than check this driver config file, if I can find it.
To try and make this easier for anyone out there who is going to try and help me, I went into Device Manager and pulled what looked to be some potentially useful information. This is taken from the details section of the properties tab for this 'Gamepad for Xbox 360' device.

I hope I have provided enough information for one of you out there to figure this thing out. I have looked online everywhere for a solution and cannot find one, including two posts here on Reddit about the same issue, although they had much easier solutions which involved plugging the controller into different USB ports or something similar.
EDIT:
Solution:
So I never actually found out what was wrong but /u/VacuumNinja had me go through the driver update process one more time and force the default Xbox 360 controller drivers on it, quite simply so as well. I may never know what the issue was, but the problem is solved so what difference doe sit make. Thanks for the help!
Help!Wired Xbox 360 controller not working with Windows 10
So I bought this wired Xbox 360 controller to play For Honor with and for some reason it is not working with the game, or any game. Having it plugged it, it shows up as a generic usb joystick, and under Device Manager it shows up as an HID-compliant game controller.
The controller itself lights up, and is able to detect inputs (as per the joystick settings) but it does not physically work with any games.
Previously I had the same issue with my DS4 controller, as it worked prior but now it will not be detected by Windows. Help?
